How It Began

Driven by passionate interests for the outdoors and humorous life experiences, Off The Dock Toons was a natural avenue for Professional Cartoonist Maureen Shelleau and Tournament Angler Phil Harrison to combine forces and showcase their entertaining talents.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Maureen enjoyed life growing up on Lake Superior and the surrounding lakes and rivers of her hometown while developing her artistic passions. Her love of the outdoors, nature and animals and promotion of conservation is the inspiration behind her paintings, illustrations and cartoon caricatures. After acquiring three Arts Degrees Maureen followed her creative spirit and persued her career in the Feature Film and Television Animation Industry,  further developing her love for cartoons and comedy. While searching for a writer to assist her with her desire to create a series of her own fishing related cartoons and animated vignettes, Maureen posted a thread on an online fishing forum where Phil replied with an interest in her project.

A professional former guide and tournament fisherman, Phil's involvement with the fishing industry helped to contribute in establishing the pair's whimsical and witty content for the fishing cartoon strip. The Off The Dock characters possess attributes and personalities true to the individual species of fish appearing in the toons. A process involving collaboration of wit and true-life experiences from the pair brought their ideas to life and the toons to a high level of professionalism and appeal.

Captured by the entrepreneurial dream, and a common passion for the outdoors, Shelleau and Harrison hooked up to form Harry Shell Productions and "Off The Dock Toons" was born.
